Aquatic Biology or Biodiversity in Coastal Ecosystems - International Program

This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of tropical coastal ecosystems, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Students will gain expertise in identifying and characterizing these ecosystems, assessing their biodiversity through effective sampling techniques, and comprehending the crucial ecological processes that regulate their functioning. Through this transformative learning experience, students will be empowered to contribute to the conservation and sustainable management of these vital environments

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Identify and characterize the different coastal ecosystems
• Describe the biotic and abiotic factors that influence coastal ecosystems
• Identify the predominant groups of invertebrate, plant, and vertebrate groups in these ecosystems
• Explain the ecological processes that structure coastal communities
• Apply the scientific method to investigate coastal ecosystems
• Design and conduct field experiments to collect data on coastal organisms
• Communicate scientific findings in writing and orally
